Als u een keer wat anders wilt doen dan shoppen, sightseeing of dat gewandeld door de warme zwoele straten van Bangkok dan is het een heel goed idee om eens keer lekker een keer een filmpje te pakken in 1 van de velen bioscopen die Bangkok rijk is.
Waar in Nederland een bioscoopbezoekje een ware uitputtingsslag is, met te kleine stoelen, te weinig beenruimte, te luidruchtig publiek en dure kaartjes, zijn de cinema’s van Bangkok een oase van rust en verkoeling en zal het u aan niets ontbreken hier.
Kaartje kopen
Dat begint al bij het kiezen van een film. De heren en dames achter de balie nemen alle tijd voor je om je te helpen met het zoeken naar de film van jouw keuze, de juiste stoelen, het betalen en uiteindelijk met twee handen overhandigen van de kaartjes, gevolgd door een uitgebreide way als dank voor uw klandizie. Dat betekent dat je in de rij ook even geduld moet hebben, maar die tijd kun je weer gebruiken om alle billboards boven de kassa af te speuren waar alle films op pronken en te checken of je de juiste keuze hebt gemaakt. Een kaartje kost maar een fractie van wat het hier kost, tussen de 120 en 180 baht (3,50 en 5,00 euro)
Filmaanbod
Het filmaanbod is enorm. Ooit had Nederland en onze buren de eer dat hier de nieuwste films als eerste in première gingen. Die positie zijn we kwijt geraakt aan de landen van Zuidoost-Azië met Thailand voorop. Als ik terugkom van een bezoekje aan Bangkok hoef ik in Nederland wekenlang niet de filmladder te checken. De Hollywood producties zijn uiteraard allemaal in het Engels. De Thaise films zijn vaak Engels ondertiteld.
Lekkernijen
Veel wat je in Nederland kunt krijgen aan snoeperijen en drinken kun je ook in de grote cinemacomplexen krijgen hier in Thailand.
De bioscoopzaal
Is ruim opgezet en goed gekoeld. De Thai vinden het vaak te koud en nemen een dekentje mee. Stoelen zijn ruim, zeker tien centimeter ruimer dan we in Nederland gewend zijn. De rugleuning van de stoelen kun je ver achterover drukken, zodat je bijna liggend de film kunt kijken. Het scherm is groot en helder. Het geluid hard genoeg, maar niet te hard. Wat ook opvalt is dat de Thai zich rustig gedragen tijdens de film en dat na de film de zaal ordelijk en redelijk schoon worden achtergelaten. Ik heb nog nooit tijdens een film een mobiele telefoon horen afgaan.
Overigens wordt voor aanvang voor de film het liedje van koning Maha Vajiralongkorn gespeeld met beelden van zijn leven. Iedereen staat dan op, uit eerbied voor de koning. Denk niet ‘ik ben farang, het is niet mijn koning, ik blijf zitten’ want dat komt je op reprimandes en boze blikken van de Thai te staan. En je verziekt voor iedereen het filmplezier. Major Cineplex
Major Cineplex at the Esplanade houses 12 cinemas, with five grades of seating from Normal Seat (basic, individual seat) to the ultra-comfortable Emperor Seat (twin seats with adjustable leg rest). The two BSC Diamond Screens are private screening rooms for VIP guests or for hosting exclusive parties. A refuge for lovers of art/indie films, House RCA may be humble in its size but the tasteful design and a home-like atmosphere definitely make up for it. (RCA is also home to Bangkok’s one and only PTT Speedway Go-Karts.)
